What’s the difference between CDW, LDW, and SLI?

CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) covers damage to the rental car from a collision. LDW (Loss Damage Waiver) covers damage AND theft — it’s CDW plus theft protection. Most rental companies now bundle these as LDW. SLI (Supplemental Liability Insurance) covers damage or injury you cause to OTHER people or property — it’s liability protection, which is fundamentally different from CDW/LDW. Credit cards typically cover CDW/LDW but NOT liability. Your personal auto policy typically covers liability but its CDW/LDW extension varies.

Does my credit card really cover rental car damage?

Most premium and many mid-tier credit cards include CDW/LDW as a cardholder benefit. Chase Sapphire Reserve and Preferred, Amex Platinum, Capital One Venture X, and many others offer this. The coverage is real and pays real claims — but you must pay for the rental with that card AND (usually) decline the rental company’s CDW to activate it. Coverage limits, vehicle exclusions, and country restrictions vary by card. Check your specific card’s benefit guide — the toolkit does this analysis for you.

What about liability — am I covered?

Credit cards almost NEVER cover liability (injury or damage to others). Your personal auto policy usually extends liability to rental cars. If you don’t have personal auto insurance (you don’t own a car), you likely have NO liability coverage on a rental car — this is the one genuine gap where the counter’s SLI ($12–$18/day) may be worth buying. The rental car itself comes with state-minimum liability, but it’s often very low ($15,000–$25,000). SLI supplements this to $1 million.

Should I ever buy the full package?

Rarely in the US if you have a premium credit card and personal auto insurance — you’re already covered for CDW/LDW (card) and liability (auto policy). The situations where buying makes sense: renting internationally where your card doesn’t cover, renting without personal auto insurance (buy SLI), renting an exotic or restricted vehicle your card excludes, or when the stress of managing a claim across card and insurer isn’t worth the savings. What if I have an accident — do I file with the card or my auto insurer?

Will my items be sent in one package?

For logistical reasons, items in the same purchase will sometimes be sent in separate packages, even if you've specified combined shipping.

Refunds & Returns

Order cancellation

All orders can be cancelled until they are shipped. If your order has been paid and you need to make a change or cancel an order, you must contact us within 12 hours. Once the packaging and shipping process has started, it can no longer be cancelled.

Refunds

  • Your order did not arrive due to factors within your control (i.e. providing the wrong shipping address)

If you are approved for a refund, then your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your credit card or original method of payment, within 14 days.

If for any reason you would like to exchange your product, perhaps for a different size in clothing. You must contact us first and we will guide you through the steps.

Digital products:
